Patients and Clinicians Benefit when Computing is Point-of-Care

April 7, 2015 by Market Spark

Alpha HT10 - DSC_2037-1In a healthcare environment that is increasingly fast-paced, clinicians must meet a myriad of challenges — from regulatory and safety to quality assurance and patient satisfaction. Patient data, consults with other clinicians, chart information and more needs to be accurately and quickly shared along a continuum of care. Many healthcare professionals have turned to mobile computing and apps to help them meet these challenges — as well as actually increase their time spent communicating with patients. Manufacturers like Datalux have responded to need for mobile devices suited for the healthcare setting by introducing point-of-care tablets like the Alpha HT10.

More Patient Time, Less Desk Time

With a 10.1” screen and weighing only around two pounds, the Alpha HT10 is one of the lightest enterprise grade healthcare tablets in its class. Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi give the Alpha HT10 tablet the latest in wireless connectivity. Designed with state-of-the-art Intel technology, the Alpha HT10 tablet includes the most powerful and fastest processor (Intel Core i7) in its class, enabling the tablet to handle larger files and more taxing software with ease. This lets practitioners focus on delivering top level care to their patients without worrying about performance or high battery consumption. More than 40,000 apps are available to give healthcare staff mobility, while freeing them from time-consuming administrative tasks.

Mobile Computing in all Types of Clinical Settings

From the waiting room to the bedside to discharge and post-acute care, the Alpha HT10 can improve efficiencies, communication and reduce paperwork. Patients can fill in forms and digitally sign them, clinicians can collect real-time patient information at the point-of-care and immediately disseminate it along the chain of treatment. OR staff can immediately provide vital information to other hospital departments. Nursing staff can quickly access evidence-based protocols to ensure consistency. Discharged patients can interact with physicians and nurses to report status, symptoms and how well they’re following the discharge instructions. Post-acute and rehabilitation staff and patients can record progress and work with hospital staff to reduce readmission rates.

Tablet Data Inputs for Security, Accuracy and Efficiency

Healthcare-specific tablets offer a variety of standard and optional data inputs that allow clinicians and staff to reduce the need for data entry, reduce the risk of medical errors, and increase data accuracy and privacy. Optional certified smart card readers allow tablet users to keep patient data secure while the standard RFID reader reads tagged personnel IDs and supplies. Users can validate patients and catalogue and administer medications with the optional barcode reader and magnetic stripe reader (MSR). The Alpha HT10’s bright 10.1” LCD features a capacitive multi-touch touchscreen that’s extremely responsive, even when the user is wearing exam or surgical gloves.

Easy to Clean, Hard to Break

The demanding healthcare environment is no match for the Alpha HT10; protective bumper grips make it easier to hold and provide added security in case of accidental drops. The sealed front touch screen is protected from splash in all directions and can be wiped clean without damaging the internal components of the tablet. With options for both a hand strap and a shoulder strap with carrying case, the Alpha HT10 allows for one-handed use.

The healthcare setting is unique in that data must be kept private, risk of infection needs to be controlled, and perhaps most importantly, information must be accurate. Mistakes and errors can result in litigation or worse. Added to all of those challenges is the need to improve the patient experience as well as outcomes. Clinicians are busy — often logging up to 5 miles of walking (and running) in one shift. The Datalux Alpha HT10 tablet takes all of these factors into consideration and more with its ergonomic, lightweight, yet rugged design.
